Sikandra, the Tomb of Akbar the Great, was erected between 1605 and1613. Spread in 119 acres of land, this tomb was commissioned himself by the ruler, as per the Tartary tradition. The construction of this deep red sandstone tomb with white marble highlights got completed during the reign of his son Jahangir. The structure of this tomb is like a four-tiered pyramid that is covered by a marble pavilion that carries the fake tomb; the real tomb is in the basement of the building. This tomb is covered with a wall that is 105 meters square.
